You will not want to leave!
Family Adventures in the Algarve
My thoughts are followed by my Daughter's: I am sure that you will not have a better family holiday anywhere else. There will be holidays with different activities. Perhaps there will be holidays with activities the equal of those we did here (though that will be hard). However I cannot imagine a holiday with a better place to stay. A farm sheltered in a beautiful valley with space for the kids to find some independence but still be safe. The micro-climate here means that the days were ... beautifully warm but the nights were cool enough to sleep (and the beds extremely comfortable). Our hosts Jonathan, Violeta and their team work so hard to make things look easy. They have created a special place where everyone is made to feel welcome in lovely accommodation with fabulous meals, generally a buffet with more than enough variety for the fussiest of eaters. The atmosphere generated meant all the different families gelled so well. Activities were run superbly with every child and adult catered for and able to succeed without any sense of pressure. Bring a sense of adventure and you will be richly rewarded! My Daughter's View (aged 11): I had the best holiday here. The Family are amazingly welcoming, the food delicious and the accommodation beautiful. On-site there is a lake where you could go anytime of the day. It has a deck to jump in from, paddle boards and a zipwire into the water. Also on-site are swings that are exciting and fun, not like ones in a playground. There are hammocks everywhere to go and chill and there is an outdoor African shower which is absolutely stunning. The activities are run by Jonathan who is really helpful and fun. My favorites were rock climbing and body boarding where he helped us improve and conquer any boundaries. This is a holiday I will never forget.

Fantastic trip, delivered in all areas for me
High Peaks of the Balkans
This trip delivered in all areas. Fantastic guide (Ardit), challenging trekking, lots of local culture, history and food. First the hiking. What can I say, the scenery was outstanding. You hike both above and below tree line. The trails are rocky, but generally not too steep. The first two days are long climbs. Our group took about 9 hours each day. I would not make this your first trekking experience. For anyone one that wants a challenging hike, this one is for you. With baggage support we ... carried very light day packs. Plenty of clean cold water could be found along the trail each day. So no need to carry a huge amount of water. Our guide, Ardit, was an exceptional guide. He shared his love of the mountains, people, and culture.I learned so much about Albania and it's people. He was constantly going from the front of the pack to the back. I was always at the back of the pack, but never felt rushed to speed up. Ardit would check to make sure I was OK and assure me to hike at my own pace. Ardit was quick to resolve any issue that came up. You could tell he truly wanted to make sure we had the best possible experience. The hotels in Kosovo and Tirana were very nice. I highly recommend coming in at least one day early if you are traveling from outside of Europe. You need to make sure you are rested and fully hydrated for the start of the trek. The food in Kosovo and Tirana were excellent. Along the trek the food did get a little repetitive. Your food is generally grown by the owners of the guest houses so expect whatever is in season. The good news is all the guest houses had beer and it was a bargain. Trekking is very new in this area. The guest houses we stayed at were all nice. Some were more rustic than others. I enjoyed the various guest houses. Each one was unique. I must say my favorite was the one we stayed on the last night of the trek. They had such a nice setup. Hot showers were a hit. They also have various animals. I had a blast watching the kittens and puppies play. This trip ticked all the boxes on what I consider a great trip. I highly recommend this trip to seasoned trekkers/hikers. If you want to get away from the crowds, this is the trip for you.

Incredible trek through the magnificent Julian Alps
Across the Julian Alps to Triglav

This trek is challenging, even for experienced hikers, but worth every step. Katjia and David were incredible guides, funny, friendly, extremely professional and knew the trail and terrain extremely well. They truly made the trip, as did the beauty of the alps!

The program was completed as set out in the brochure.
The Grossglockner - Austria's Triple Crown

Every aspect of the trip went according to plan with no delays or any other snags to report. Weather was not always ideal but not enough to affect the 3 summit ascents. There is no ATM in Vent, best to arrive with enough euros to last for the week.

Fantasic family fun!
Slovenian Family Adventure - Julian Alps

Our family of 5 (aged 11, 14, 18, and too old to mention) have just returned from the Julien Alps. This holiday ticked all the boxes for us and a couple more. The activities put on were varied, fun and challenging enough to leave us with a sense of satisfaction and slightly aching limbs at the end of each day. Our guides were wonderful and went above and beyond what was required. The spectacular scenary provides an inspiring backdrop to some exhilarating family fun.

A truly remarkable mountain experience and itinerary, with fabulous food
Tastes and Trails of North Macedonia
This is definitely a must if you enjoy walking. However, the hiking is challenging so make sure you are fit otherwise it will diminish this fantastic experience. Good walking equipment is essential as it can be cold up the top and the terrain rough. I loved every bit of each walk. If you travel in spring time, the flora is remarkable. Everywhere you look are some amazing plants. The views are superb so take a camera. The Macedonian tour operator is remarkable. They are generous and passionate ... about providing good service. They had chosen superb places to eat - not something I usually worry about but it was a lovely surprise to have fresh, tasty food. This trip is worth every penny as it has created an amazing memory. I have recommended this holiday to so many people which is why I'm writing a review now.

An outstanding mountain experience with a professional guide
Walking in the Balkan Borderlands
This was an excellent trip. Our guide was exceptional considering that he had so many obstacles thrown at him. Each time he dealt with it professionally and calmly. The walking was great although it could be challenging. Some of the slopes are extremely steep so take shoes that have a good grip and ankle support. The weather is very unreliable so prepare for all eventualities: thunderstorms to temperatures of 36ºC. The guest house in Albania is superb; the location and service is an experience ... not to be missed. The boat ride on the lake is great as you get a chance to swim in some lovely warm water. This is followed by a fantastic lunch. If you have Semir as your guide, you will know that you are in safe hands.

A great adventure
Italian High Level Route

As first time mountaineers with a lot of UK hill walking experience we didn't really know what to expect from this guided high level trek. Our guide was excellent and whilst very safety conscious he made every effort to ensure that we achieved our goals. Each day was very different and the scenery was spectacular. We were left with a great sense of achievement and a desire to book another similar trip soon

could be better walking holiday
Trekking the Ridges & Summits of Bulgaria
Pros - Delicious food in abundance in nice restaurants accompanied by live Bulgarian music - Good selection of hotels and restaurants. High standard and comfortable accommodation. I really appreciate the fact that I did not have to share my room with anyone else - Good value for money in general. Car supported trek is a real advantage - Beautiful, pristine scenery in Pirin National Park - Itinerary is set up to make the most of the two national parks (although it does not allow for any ... spare/free days in case of bad weather or to do some shopping) - Long days walking sometimes in excess of 8-9 hours with good photographic opportunities - Good bunch of like-minded, enthusiastic trekkers and adventure seekers (especially on Marble Ridge day..) Cons - I am glad that we spent only one night in Bulgarian mountain hut. The huts are very basic with limited toilet facilities and range of product on sale. I was disappointed that none of them sell any postcards in the twenty first century - Although itinerary looks great on the paper it does not allow for any spare days in case of bad weather for the main highlights listed by KE (Musala peak, Rila seven lakes and Marble Ridge). I am very disappointed with the fact (and not only myself) that we lost pretty much everything in Rila National Park. The weather was absolutely awful with a rain, mist and very limited visibility consequently we could not see anything. It is easy to put the blame on the mother nature however without spare days and flexibility this situation is likely to happen in Bulgaria even in July. After 3 days we moved to Pirin National Park in accordance with the rigid itinerary. - Sadly, there was an awful incident at the farewell dinner on the last night which made the trip turn sour. Although our guide is experienced, knowledgeable English speaking mountain leader he appears to lack social skills, diplomacy or conflict solving skills. One of our fellow trekker wanted to order a beer following very long day on the marble ridge. Our group were sitting at the table around 7.30pm waiting for the last participant. Ivo said no orders were allowed unless our group is 100% complete. Pierre questioned that and asked the waiter for a bottle of bier. While the waiter was walking away Ivo called him and asked to cancel the order. Following this decision, a real argument erupted between those two. Pierre decided to leave the dinner follow by one lady in tears as she apparently could not stand a tense atmosphere at the table. Her husband also followed her, leaving the rest of the group in a state of shock. I understand that Ivo is a strict guide who never changes his mind, however we are fully grown- up people and his clients. This situation should never have taken place. I read trip reviews from previous years and similar situations were referred to. Any lessons learnt ?

KE Adventure reply

Thank you for your review. We are pleased you found the food in Bulgaria was delicious and the accommodation to be of a high standard, and that you thought our holiday was good value for money. Your appreciation of the scenery in the Pirin is obvious and we sympathise with you that cloud and rain in the Rila National Park detracted from your enjoyment there.  We were sorry to learn of the incident on your last day and we are currently speaking to all parties involved to resolve this.

An unforgettable outstanding week!
Family Adventures in the Algarve
This holiday was truly an unforgettable week that exceeded our family’s expectations. Our hosts Jon and Violetta are incredible people who clearly love what they do and enjoy sharing it with their guests. They are a joy to be around and they made all aspects of the holiday special. They (and their team of helpers) were all so welcoming and they were really great with all the kids. The farm accommodation is set in a valley nestled among cork trees. Each cottage is lovingly decorated with their ... own en suite. We barely used the en suite shower because there is the most awesome outdoor African shower with a sunny nature view. The kids loved the onsite “big swing” and the lake with its zipwire. The activities were all a lot of fun and challenged everyone to exactly the right level. Nobody felt held back or pushed too far. Jon went out of his way to look after everyone. With rock climbing, if you wanted to make it to the top, that was great. If you wanted to go up just a bit, that was fine too. We surfed, body boarded, kayaked, hiked and biked all on different days and everyone really enjoyed all the activities and they were well balanced with the needs of the group. Violetta and her team in the kitchen cooked up the most delicious meals with fresh ingredients and variety and plenty of it. Every meal was superb and made with attention to care and detail. By the end of the week, it felt like saying good-bye to family and there were more than a couple wet eyes. It was a wonderful experience meeting the other families and their children. I could not recommend this holiday more highly. Hints/Tips: evenings can be cool and breezy so bring enough long sleeves which I didn't! The evening watching the sunset is colder than you'd expect and the rocks are a pain in the backside. I'd bring something soft to sit on like a beach towel next time.

Mount Triglav Weekend - Slovenia

Another very good short break for people with limited time. Excellent guide ,Miha, who paced the trip very well. Only negative point was the hotel Krim, or should that be grim!

Fell in love with Romania
Walking through Timeless Transylvania
This was my first KE trip and, even though I was blatently the least fit person ever to go on a walking holiday, the places we visited were so beautiful it was worth the effort! We went from idyllic rolling hills and meadows full of wildflowers to forbidding mountain peaks reaching up into the clouds - it was magical. The people were lovely as well and a real highlight was our wonderful guide Dan, who combined being informed about everything you could possibly want to know with being incredibly ... nice and funny as well - oh, and did I mention he saved us from wild boars? Truly the best guide in a fantastic country - go now and go with Dan!

Lovely scenery and people
Walking through Timeless Transylvania

We had a lovely time walking through wildflower meadows and up hills. Would not say this was a leisurely walk but very enjoyable. The highlight was the homestay in Viscri and the hospitality of the local people and getting to find out about the local crafts. Horse and cart ride to BBQ and BBQ itself also fun. Good walking country, and the Saxon villages, castles and Peles Palace all very memorable

AMAZING RANGE OF EXPERIENCES
Kenyan Wildlife Wonders - Family Safari Adventure
This was a once in a lifetime holiday - a brilliant mix of safari and beach with some amazing walks thrown in for good measure. The guides are brilliant with the kids and made it all work so well. The only slight negative is that there is a fair amount of travelling between the various places but to be honest, you wouldn't get the range of experiences without the travel so with some audio books on iPods the kids were ok. The accommodation and food varies throughout the trip but that is because ... you go from the wild camp to a guest house to a 5* lodge in Tsavo!! All brilliant and Zanzibar was the perfect way to end the trip. Loved it and so did the kids, so many memories.

Brilliant from start to finish
Road Cycling Tour of Corsica
From meeting at the airport to the farewell at Bastia it was an excellent cycling, destination and personal experience. Having previously cycled France on an organised self guided tour as well as a fully supported tour the KE tour in Corsica took it to another level. The organisation was faultless, the refuelling food, drink and lunch stops were more than ample, tasty with quality nutrition and the accommodation was a blend of authentic rustic to 5 star luxury, all of which were well chosen for ... location, cleanliness and breakfasts and dinners. The combination of a guide, Mandy who rode with us, and Thea, the van driver who prepared our snacks and lunches as well as transporting our luggage, was a contributing factor to the seamless enjoyment of a great week. The daily ride distances and difficulties were challenging but not too difficult. I was tired at the end of every day but able to front up and enjoy the next. I have no hesitation in booking another tour with KE or referring anyone looking for a similar experience. I have made some great friends and hopefully we can keep in contact and catch up/ride again. Incredible week on the big Italian Summits
Italian Summit Climber
An incredible trip for the novice (but fit) mountaineer. Our guide Kathy had a vast amount of experience and was able to give us countless tips and information throughout our expedition. Sleeping and walking at altitudes in excess of 4000m is tough, take plenty of paracetamol and ibuprofen for headaches. I found this helped massively. In terms of food - you won't go hungry! Most rifugios (or huts) serve up a classic Italian 4 course meal every night and the quality was incredible given the ... remoteness and number of mouths to feed. They also do good lunches so budget around €10-15 for these. As the packing lists suggest take a mixture of clothes suitable for hot and snowy conditions. We had all sorts of weather for blistering sunshine to blizzards, so I ended up wearing everything! Getting to Staffal is definitely a mission. Allow for around 6 hours at least. Busses only leave Malpensa to Novara every hour and then it's 2 or 3 trains to Pont-Saint-Martin and then the last bus up the valley to Staffal only leaves approx every 3 hours. The other option is to fly into Turin which we discovered was much closer and is also well connected, something not mentioned in the KE Trip Notes. Overall this was a truly memorable week, spent in fantastic company, in wonderful alpine settings and sleeping in the highest mountain huts of Europe!
