Nepal - what's included (you might be surprised)

What’s the worst that can happen on a trekking holiday in Nepal, or the Himalayas? When people think about risks on a trekking holiday in Nepal or the Himalayas, it’s usually the big things that come to mind — altitude, weather, or tough terrain. But the reality is, most of those challenges are well managed by experienced operators. One of the more frustrating (and often overlooked) problems? Running out of cash.

While Kathmandu is a relatively budget-friendly city, once you get into the Himalayas a Mars Bar can cost £5! Even worse, water (the one thing you definitely need), can also cost £5 a bottle. With no ATMs in the high Himalayas to get more Reupees out, running low on cash is a real headache. This is exactly why we include everything you’ll need for a trekking holiday in the Himalayas, including a few things that might surprise you:

Food

Food is fuel on a trekking holiday in Nepal. The further you travel into the Himalayas, the more everything costs. To avoid you having to reduce your food intake to save a bit of money; we include all meals in the mountains. You’ll eat well and stay energised every step of the way.

Water

The one thing you need on any kind of trek is clean drinking water. It might surprise you to know that this isn’t always included in tour packages. Some trekkers end up being foreced to buy platsic bottled water every day, which isn’t just expensive but also environmentally damaging. We’ve always supplied boiled, safe-to-drink water on our treks - because it’s vital for your health and part of our commitment to reducing plastic waste in the Himalayas.

Down Sleeping Bag

The temperature will inevitably get down to below minus 20 degrees celcius on your trekking holiday in Nepal, even when inside a teahouse (which has no central heating and very thin glass on its windows). We offer free hire of a down sleeping bag, which is tested to such extreme temperatures, to make sure you have a nice cosy night. Why? Well how often are you going to need a 4 season sleeping bag where you live? These sleeping bags are very expensive, so save yourself a small fortune and simply hire one for free from us on your trip.

Down Jacket

Getting out of a warm sleeping bag into a freezing room is no fun - unless you have the right gear. Much like sleeping bags, down jackets are both vital for these conditions and very expensive. You won’t need to wear one of these ultra warm jackets anywhere but somewhere as cold as the Himalayas, so we offer you the chance to save hundreds with free hire of a warm, expedition-grade down jacket.

Permits

Permits are costs that can be easily missed, but likewise come up unexpectedly. Depending on the location of your trekking holiday in Nepal, you might need multiple permits. If you haven’t accounted for it then you simply won't be allowed to do the trek. These are often charged as an additional cost with other companies but we inlcude them in our pricing and take care of them all in advance.

Flights

Unbelievably the cost of flights into remote Himalayan airports, such as Lukla, are not always included in trekking packages. However we included them for several reasons, the primary reason is safety. There are numerous airlines that don’t reach our safety requirements. Likewise, navigating a myriad of localised flight issues and translations can cause no end of issues.

Peace of Mind

Trekking in Nepal should be a challenge, but it shouldn’t be stressful. When you’re surrounded by some of the most breathtaking scenery in the world, the last thing you want to be worrying about is what’s left in your wallet. That’s why we’ve designed our trips to include everything you need once you're in the mountains so you can focus on the adventure, not the expenses. However, do still bring cash with you for a mix of souvenirs and very expensive chocolate bars!
