In this blog, the team reveal what they love most about solo travel, their favourite solo trips so far and the destinations they’re dreaming of exploring next. If you’re looking for inspiration for your own solo adventure, you’re in the right place!

What’s your favourite part of travelling solo?

I enjoy the chance to meet like-minded travellers from all different parts of the world and swap stories and experiences!

What’s been your favourite solo trip so far?

I absolutely loved Japan: Nakasendo Trail and Kumano Kodo Pilgrimage. The itinerary was just the perfect balance between guided excursions and free time for independent sightseeing. As a first-time visitor to Japan, having a great guide to show me the ropes first really helped empower me to explore on my own with confidence.

Which trip is next on your radar to do solo?

I’d love to trek the Cordillera Huayhuash Circuit in Peru, with the legendary leader that is Val Pitkethly!

What’s your favourite part of travelling solo?

The support and camaraderie you have in a group, getting to know those people and how it feels like a real team effort with all the encouragement and celebrations. It’s also that rare treat of time far away from the normal stresses and tasks of daily life.

What’s been your favourite solo trip so far?

My One Week Toubkal trip in Morocco; I had never done a group trip before and had never been to altitude. I’m not going to lie; it was pretty tough going but I did it and it was so rewarding. I loved those ā€˜pinch me is this real?’ moments as I opened my tent each morning to another day of fantastic views of the Atlas Mountains.

Which trip is next on your radar to do solo?

The next trip on my radar is a hope to visit one of the Stans. The landscapes look wonderful, it’s still relatively quiet in terms of tourism and would really feel like somewhere very different.

What’s your favourite part of travelling solo?

I always feel like you meet so many more people when you travel solo. Some I’ve met in the past have become lifelong friends.

What’s been your favourite solo trip so far?

I have had so many favourites but a standout one for me was when I joined Druk Path Trek in Bhutan. It was like stepping back in time. The humble people, the camping, the Tiger’s nest trek, the monasteries, it was all just a wonderfully unique experience.

Which trip is next on your radar to do solo?

I’d love to do some more volcano trekking and I’ve heard great feedback about the Trekking Guatemala’s Magnificent Seven trip. Seven summits, sensational sunrises and volcanic hot springs. Sounds brilliant.

What’s your favourite part of travelling solo?

I love the feeling of achievement – that little pre-trip anxiety quickly turns into pure enjoyment.

What’s been your favourite solo trip so far?

My guided trip to Costa Rica was a perfect solo adventure. I’d never been to Central America and as there’s so much to see in CR, it was a great way to experience the highlights without worrying about planning everything.

Which trip is next on your radar to do solo?

I'm hooked on Central & South America so I would love to do our Colombia adventure. I'd be reluctant to travel there without a guided group and the itinerary looks amazing - jungle trekking, ancient cities, coffee farms plus plenty of coffee tasting!

What’s your favourite part of travelling solo?

One of my favourite things about solo travel is that it really pushes me out of my comfort zone but in the best way possible!

What’s been your favourite solo trip so far?

I joined the guided group of Levada Trails and Peaks of Madeira, this was perfect for me. It built my confidence walking on well-maintained trails, it flowed like clockwork so I had no stress and everyone in my group was really lovely and like-minded.

Which trip is next on your radar to do solo?

I’ve heard brilliant things about the Mountains and Deserts of Kazakhstan adventure. Joining a guided group as a solo traveller opens up off-the-beaten track destinations and Kazakhstan is unlike anywhere else I’ve ever been.

What’s your favourite part of travelling solo?

I love the ease of travelling to places I may feel unsure about travelling to alone.

What’s been your favourite solo trip so far?

I joined a group trip for the In the Shadow of Nanda Devi trek. I was a bit anxious about travelling to India on my own but as soon as I met the group and guide, all my misconceptions vanished within the first hour of being in Delhi!

Which trip is next on your radar to do solo?

Where to start?! If I had to choose, I would pick the epic Mera Peak as I think going solo, I would benefit from the group morale, camaraderie and team spirit on such a tough challenge!

What’s your favourite part of travelling solo?

I find solo travelling a very freeing experience. It’s even better when you head off the beaten track and can safely turn your phone onto flight mode and truly lean into the remoteness.

What’s been your favourite solo trip so far?

KE’s guided Annapurna Sanctuary & Poon Hill Trek was amazing. I’m a little spoiled for mountain scenery living in the Lake District but the mountains in Nepal are on a completely different scale! Reaching a snow covered Annapurna Basecamp was a memory that will last me a lifetime. I would return to Nepal in a heartbeat.

Which trip is next on your radar to do solo?

As a nature lover, our Galapagos Islands Adventure is at the top of my list. It’s so exciting to hear giant tortoises have only recently been successfully reintroduced to Floreana Island after an absence of over 150 years. It would be awesome to see them in their natural habitat.

What’s your favourite part of travelling solo?

I love the freedom of being spontaneous based on the people I meet and their recommendations.

What’s been your favourite solo trip so far?

The French Way, I didn’t understand the ā€˜journey’ aspect of the Camino until I did it myself. I met some of the most amazing people along the route.

Which trip is next on your radar to do solo?

Everest Marathon. I love a challenge and being free in the mountains, it’s the best head space as a busy mum of 2. This would be an incredible challenge in the most incredible setting.

What’s your favourite part of travelling solo?

Solo travelling allows me to engage with new people and my surroundings on a deeper level than I otherwise might with friends! Having that little push opens so many doors.

What’s been your favourite solo trip so far?

My guided trip, High Pastures of the Picos, was perfect as someone who wanted to push themselves out of their comfort zone in a way I wouldn’t have done by myself.  Being with an incredible group was one of the highlights, and many stories and laughs were shared.

Which trip is next on your radar to do solo?

There are so many trips to choose from but I’m with Ella on this one! The Mountains and Deserts of Kazakhstan would be the holiday of a lifetime.

What’s your favourite part of travelling solo?

You have a ready-made social circle, often with many shared interests. I’ve met some really interesting people and shared great stories along the trails. I find it easier to spark conversations with others when you travel on your own, rather than with a partner or friend. I have a few really good friends that I’ve met through my travels over the years.

What’s been your favourite solo trip so far?

It’s difficult to choose however, I have absolutely fallen in love with Latin America and my recent trips in Colombia and Peru are definitely at the top of my list. I joined a fabulous group on Salkantay to Machu Picchu Lodge trek and we all gelled straight away. Everything about the trip was outstanding, from the eco lodges and their stunning locations (and hot tubs!), to the food, guide, history, local people and incredible scenery. The pisco sours were rather good too!

Which trip is next on your radar to do solo?

There are so many places I’d love to travel to next… Guatemala and Patagonia are definitely high on my list but I’d really love to return to Peru to trek the Alpamayo Circuit in the Cordillera Blanca. I read an article by Terry Adby back in 2016 and I’ve wanted to go ever since.

What’s your favourite part of travelling solo?

I love exploring new countries and areas with like-minded people, the camaraderie you get in a small group trip is second to none.

What’s been your favourite solo trip so far?

Being a fairly recent newbie to the company I have only done the Baltic Trails Adventure which was a fantastic trip as we explored Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia, all in just 9 days. The other guests were great fun, interesting and having two ā€˜tree’ specialists gave us an insight into the flora and fauna which was an added bonus!

Which trip is next on your radar to do solo?

My husband has travelled extensively across Africa and is keen to explore other parts of the world now so I would definitely love to do a solo lodge safari covering Botswana and incorporating Victoria Falls. Although I’d also love to do our Uganda and Rwanda trip to see the gorillas - he hasn’t done this so I’d be able to experience something he hasn’t!

What’s your favourite part of travelling solo?

My favourite part of travelling solo is meeting new people and making new friends with a shared love of the outdoors. When I worked in our sales department, I used to reassure customers who were nervous about booking solo that they already had something in common with the rest of the group before they’d even arrived – they had all chosen the same trip. Chances are, they were going to get along!

What’s been your favourite solo trip so far?

When I did the Mount Everest Marathon I met so many new people and there was so much excitement and anticipation around the marathon. Lots of people shared stories about their previous marathons (or lack of – like me!) and motivations for doing this one. It was very special to share the adventure with an amazing bunch of people from around the world.

Which trip is next on your radar to do solo?

I now have a young family so I don’t tend to get away solo for long periods of time these days! However, one day I would love to do another African safari and our new Elephant Trail Luxury Lodge Safari has definitely caught my eye.

What’s your favourite part of travelling solo?

As a solo traveller, you naturally end up communicating with others more. It’s a great way to meet fascinating people and learn about their cultures and life stories.

What’s been your favourite solo trip so far?

I loved my experience on the Best of the Tour du Mont Blanc trip. This trip takes so much coordination so it was amazing to have it all organised and you really benefit from the group camaraderie on this trip.

Which trip is next on your radar to do solo?

I am going on the Laugavegur & Fimmvorduhals Trail Trek soon and I can't wait to see Iceland's otherworldly landscapes with my own eyes!

What’s your favourite part of travelling solo?

The feeling of freedom!

What’s been your favourite solo trip so far?

Last year I travelled to Sicily on our Volcanoes and Islands Adventure and this was the perfect solo trip. It was a perfect mix of sun, walking and culture.

Which trip is next on your radar to do solo?

I would love to travel to Madagascar, it has the perfect mix of wildlife and beautiful surroundings. I think a guided group trip here would be great especially when exploring somewhere so remote.

What’s your favourite part of travelling solo?

The moment when you get to a viewpoint you have been excited about seeing and you get to really take it in at your own pace, no distractions, just complete peace – you and the moment!

What’s been your favourite solo trip so far?

I’m fairly new to KE but I have a self-guided cycling adventure booked in for the end of summer: The Danube - Vienna to Budapest! I’m so excited!

Which trip is next on your radar to do solo?

I’d love to hike in the Dolomites. To see the jagged peaks of Tre Cime would be unforgettable.

What’s your favourite part of travelling solo?

I really love how independent it makes me feel. I’m always a bit nervy travelling as a solo traveller, but it’s always worthwhile in the end.

What’s been your favourite solo trip so far?

Very difficult to answer, but I think it would have to be my trip to Peru to complete the Choqueqirao to Machu Picchu trek. The trip was such a great mix of remote trekking, fascinating culture and history, great food and amazing sites!

Which trip is next on your radar to do solo?

It would have to be either the Mexican Mayan Explorer trip or The Lost Cities and Coffee Trails of Colombia – I’d really love to go to both these destinations but would be more reluctant to do so going it alone, so being able to join one of these group treks as a solo traveller would be perfect.

Solo travel for women is about independence, confidence, and unforgettable experiences. Whether trekking mountains, exploring remote landscapes, or joining a guided group trip, solo adventure travel lets you discover the world on your own terms while sharing amazing moments with like-minded travellers.
